A Day in the Life 
We offer you a position where you provide transactional legal support relating to the intellectual property field and be a proactive strategic partner with R&D and business leadership using sound judgment to provide timely, effective advice and develop practical solutions. You will manage IP operations in EMEA including managing the EMEA patent preparation, prosecution and maintenance operation and budget (including Medtronic’s Intellectual Property Alliance with EMEA patent firms (EMEA MIPA)) and leading professionals such as intellectual property attorneys. Your responsibility is to develop and support plans to coordinate IP support for EMEA using IP attorneys outside EMEA that are assigned to strategic business groups. You will focus on operational excellence including continuous improvement of processes.

  • Excellent writing and speaking ability as well as strong negotiation and leadership skills, 
  • Business-minded professional, with sound analytical skills and judgment and effective in understanding and advancing business objectives in IP transactions,
  • strong interpersonal skills and the ability to become an integral part of a business team, quickly establishing credibility and developing effective working relationships,
  • ability to identify, analyze and solve problems with minimal direction and make decisions with confidence, 
  • ability to execute and deliver in a rapid, fast-paced business environment, 
  • highly motivated with desire to deliver outstanding professional work product,
  • comfortable engaging with and advising business leaders, 
  • ability to work effectively in a matrix organization, with strong communication skills to build and support teams working across the organization, 
  • proactive and self-motivated with ability to think broadly, 
  • demonstrated presentation skills, 
  • must be able to handle multiple tasks/projects concurrently and manage priorities accordingly, 
  • must have a high tolerance for ambiguity, 
  • fluent in English, 
  • legal degree from a European University and a minimum of 10 years of broad legal IP experience including IP transactions and IP litigation as well as a minimum of 5 years of people management experience, 
  • licensed attorney at law in a European country. 
Nice to haves:

  • In-house experience leading an IP team in Europe, 
  • experience with disputed IP proceedings (e.g. oppositions), 
  • previous experience in the medical device, pharma or healthcare fields, 
  • admitted to practice before European Patent Office (EPO), European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) or national IP Office, 
  • degree in an engineering, science or technical field.
