As Senior Manager Intellectual Property, you will be accountable for all intellectual property (IP) activities of the company across the R&D and commercial organization. You will directly liaise with colleagues from R&D and Business Development Departments and external patent attorney(s) and will conduct the assessment and management of all IP interests of the company at a global level. The company will support the successful candidate in her/his European Qualifying Examination (EQE, see Rule 28 IPREE).

Role description: 

Perform, manage, direct and leverage all patents, trademarks and related intellectual property activities of the company across the R&D and commercial organization. Serve as the trusted point of expertise for the IP portfolio of the company, including but not limited to the following:

- Provide clear and informed counseling on opportunities to protect new inventions and to create IP portfolios, including trademarks.
- Continue to build and manage existing patent and trademark portfolios by identifying new inventions and preparing, prosecuting, maintaining and defending patent filings for all projects of the company, independent of development stage with the support of external attorney(s). Advise on publication strategies.
- Provide IP strategic support for external collaborations.
- Ensure clear opinions with respect to patentability, validity, and freedom to operate, and formulate patent strategies that secure IP positions, Freedom-to-Operate and enable IP defense with the support of external attorney(s).
- Collaborate with colleagues and leadership across the company to secure objectives.
- Build and manage external relationships with outside counsels and collaborators as necessary.
- Demonstrate effective and proactive communication of IP and related legal issues, including risk assessments, to colleagues and leadership of the R&D and commercial organization.
- Support business activities by supporting due diligence IP assessments as well as providing advice on contract drafting and negotiation.
- Follow the budget and administrative procedures related to IP.

Skills required: 

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Physics or Chemistry, a diploma in intellectual property with ‘Patents’ specialization from the CEIPI (Center for International Intellectual Property Studies) or equivalent. In order to be considered for the position, at least 3 years of prior law firm experience and/or in-house (Biotech) experience is required.
Knowledge in nanotechnology is preferred.
