Demant / Copenhague

(European) Patent Attorney – several roles

Are you looking for a job where you can help make a true, life-changing difference?

At Demant we are making a true, life-changing difference for people with a hearing impairment. We make children with a hearing impairment hear for the first time in their life – and we help people maintain hearing even at old age. We are growing based on innovation in complex and highly integrated technologies, not least in digital technologies.

Hearing is thinking – and good hearing helps your brain stay fit throughout your life.

To support us further in clearing, obtaining, defending, and invalidating IP positions, we are looking to expand our IP team in Copenhagen with a European Patent Attorney who can see the opportunities in applying his/her competences in digital technologies to a world-leading hearing-aid company. We are also looking for a (nationally qualified) patent attorney who is training to become a European Patent Attorney.

We support your relocation to Copenhagen – a capital in Scandinavia renowned for its green livability, gastronomy, architecture, design, and work-life-balance.

IP risk mitigation and IP management in a great IP team

Our IP team is located at Demant’s modern headquarter, a short commute from the city center of Copenhagen – many of our colleagues have chosen to move here from other European countries or from other parts of the world to work with hearing health. Today the headquarter comprises more than 1700 people from 40+ nationalities.

We have a common goal, high team-spirit and support each other daily – we simply believe that the best results are achieved through a combined effort. We constantly share insights among us to improve our decisions and services. We have an informal atmosphere – where respect is pivotal.

Our primary objective is to ensure that we launch products with the lowest litigation risk – and we use the full palette of tools and mechanisms that enable freedom to operate. We build and maintain one of the largest patent portfolios in the field of hearing aids; and although we are fully self-supporting across all aspects of IP prosecution, we also work with external IP counsels.

We appreciate that diligence and communication are key to continuously advising our stakeholders e.g., in R&D project groups.

Dynamic scope of the role

It is important to us that you thrive in the role, be it that you are an experienced European Patent Attorney or training to become one, and we are therefore – initially and on an ongoing basis – engaged with you in a dialogue to match and adapt the scope of your undertakings. In summary, we have room to adapt the role to you and your skills. We strive to make you excel, in a balanced way, today and tomorrow.

The role may include all aspects of IP, including predominantly activities related to clearing, obtaining, defending, and invalidating IP positions especially, but not only, focused on patents and designs. In addition, you may undertake functions across our IP team or responsibilities towards our Demant organization. You will also play an active part in decision-making and strategizing.

You will handle select technologies within a wide range of technologies, including wireless communications technologies, digital (audio) signal processing, neural networks, software, and electronics. You will bring in competence in these fields – and you will play an active part in our IP team providing our IP services to other parties in the Demant organization.

Background related to physics, electronics, or software

You have an M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in a technical field related to physics or electronics and you are more than familiar with digital technologies.

You have at least some years’ experience as an IP professional and – importantly – you communicate clearly and concisely with various stakeholders across a large organization.

You are ready to embark on a career in an international environment in Copenhagen and will speak to us to find a relocation solution, if need be. You bring both energy and diligence to our team.

You are fluent and eloquent in written and spoken English – preferably you speak German or French, too.

Flexible working conditions

At Demant, we work in a dynamic environment built on trust and openness where networking is key. We offer you flexible, modern work conditions. You can feel the company’s energizing spirit the very moment you enter our premises. So come join us and be a part of our diverse crowd with many different nationalities and backgrounds.
